Why should we do our best?

Have you ever watched a patsy in a boxing match, a guy who just gives up and quit in the middle of the compete and then whole crowd boos, they hurl drink bottles and bits of hot dog into the ring.     The crowds don’t throw stuff because the boxer lost. They throw stuff because he quit. In our hearts we all believe that we should deliver our best.    Eric Jefferson swam for

Equatorial Guinea at the 1998 Olympics . He didn’t win. Eric had never seen a 50-metre pool. At home he only trains in a little hotel pool while there are no guests.

In the competition, the other two competitors in their 100 preliminary-contest from Australia and

Canada were both disqualified for false starts, so he swam alone against the clock.Soon, he was suspected the first time swum a 100-meter race. He kept swam with his head out of the water and he barely kicked his legs.    In the first lap he was really struggling. In the second he was considered nearly drowning! But Eric was no doubt fighting with everything he had.     At the last lap, all spectators began to roar and with every stroke the noise got louder and louder. Twenty meters from the finish, Eric was barely moving but the crowd was going crazy cheer for him. When he finally hit the wall, the cheering and stamping all but lifted the roof off the stadium.    His speed of one minute seconds was about a minute slower than all the other competitors. Nobody cared, Eric had done his best. When you gave an honest effort, people support you.You feel happier when you do your best    Remember what it feels like walking to the school on those days when you have done all of your homework and done them as well as you can. Don’t you feel just a bit more enthusiastic about school? Why? Because you are always happier when you give 100 percent pure heart, whether it’s a math item or whether it’s a football game.    Your teachers will tell you “Work hard!” and your parents will probably tell you “Work hard!” One day your boss will tell you “Work hard!” it’s not like you can ask your parents our teachers for a help, you’d get fired if you are not work hard! The big reason you do it is for you.

If you get good points, that’s a bonus. If other people notice, wonderful! But the main reason is how you feel about yourself.

Sometimes you give everything you have, even you failed, you won’t feel regret!

It’s not failing that hurts so much. It’s that feeling that you didn’t do all you could.

Even when you do your best, there are no guarantees that you will succeed. You may do your best, and still be criticised. You may do your best and still have people laugh at you. But when you do your best, the reward is that feeling that says, “I did everything I could.”

And if you have done all you can

There comes a point when you say to yourself, “That’s enough.” If you are facing an examination, or an important interview, and you have prepared as well as you can, then you‘ve succeed in most way. You walk into the examination room, or the interview, and say to yourself, “I have done everything I can and I’ll accept whatever it follows next.”
